The US has come up with a next-generation self-filling sandbag
The USA has created revolutionary bags that change the approach to flood protection. The new product is called StormBags.
These lightweight bags weigh about 500 g dry. When exposed to water, they can expand up to 15 kg. StormBag absorbs about 18 liters of water in just 3-5 minutes. In hot and dry conditions, the bags dry out in about 2 weeks and if left in water, they will retain their size indefinitely. Once dry, they can be easily stored and reused.
The bags are made from biodegradable burlap and linen. StormBags are environmentally friendly - they are non-toxic, making them safe to dispose of in a landfill. They can also be used for plant hydration by placing them around trees or shrubs in drought conditions.
StormBags cost $1,875
