Uber-backed Serve Robotics has confirmed its plans to expand robot-assisted delivery. According to the manufacturer, the Gen3 - a faster and more reliable model - is coming to the market. The third-generation robot is equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module, which provides 5 times more processing power and is capable of making “ultra-fast decisions”. The new system includes the Ouster REV7 lidar and an updated set of sensors. This is expected to significantly improve autonomous navigation and reaction time for collision avoidance. Also among the key improvements are an increase in top speed to 4.9 meters per second, new larger wheels and integrated suspension for confidence in traveling in a variety of weather conditions. Compared to Gen2, the new delivery robot has 67% more battery capacity, can run for up to 14 hours on a single charge, and can travel about 77 kilometers. Its payload capacity has also been increased by 15%. Serve Robotics plans to deploy thousands of the new Gen3 bots on the Uber Eats platform as early as next year.
