France unveils Europe's first electric-hydrogen catamaran
French company Green Navy has announced the launch of Prometeo, Europe's first catamaran powered by electric-hydrogen propulsion. It features electric propulsion with hydrogen fuel cells, ensuring zero emissions and quiet, efficient operation of the vessel.
The electro-hydrogen propulsion system is powered by hydrogen, which is used as the main source of energy. It reacts chemically in the fuel cell, generating electricity for the electric motors. This solution replaces traditional fossil fuels with clean energy, making Prometeo an environmentally friendly choice for marine transportation. It has a range of 300 kilometers at a speed of 8.3 knots, which is equivalent to about 36 hours of sailing.
The catamaran's lightweight construction and advanced technology ensure its quiet operation without odor or vibration. It is designed for both passenger and cargo transportation. Prometeo is expected to go on sale in spring 2025.
