Electra hybrid aircraft takes off and lands on a 45m runway
Electra has announced the production model of its EL9 Ultra Short hybrid electric airplane. It is designed to carry 9 passengers.
The new airplane can reach speeds of up to 324 km/h and utilize ultra short takeoff and landing technology. It can carry up to 1,360 kg of payload at a distance of up to 611 km. Without payload, the EL9 can travel a distance of 2,037 kilometers.
Unlike purely electric airplanes that require chargers, the EL9 charges itself. It also has a longer range and emergency reserve. The EL9 uses inflatable elevator technology, allowing takeoff and landing at sites with a minimum runway length of only 45 meters.
Although such pads can be used by helicopters and eVTOLs, Electra says the EL9 can perform the same functions but at a third of the cost and with lower emissions and noise
