DeepMind is testing the «Gabermas machine» in order to reduce the divide in society
The concept of the project is based on Habermas' idea that any conflicts can be resolved through perfect communication and equality. Deep Mind's system acts as a mediator, conducting private sessions with each participant to gather their opinions and create a group statement. Unlike traditional methods, the machine takes into account the opinions of many people and highlights common ideas, leading to an agreed-upon solution.
Technically, the Habermas machine utilizes two large language models: a generative model to create multiple versions of group statements, and an acceptance prediction model to analyze how likely participants are to accept one option over another. This process continues until a statement that everyone agrees with is reached.
