Haier has unveiled a prototype of its HIVA home robot assistant, which, according to the developers, marks a new stage in home automation.
The robot, which is 165 cm tall and weighs 70 kg, is equipped with 44 degrees of freedom and is capable of performing a wide range of household tasks, including cleaning, washing, ironing, sorting clothes, and even helping to prepare meals. Thanks to its wheeled base, it moves freely around the house, and its manipulators allow it to interact with household appliances at different levels — from the floor to shelves at a height of 2 meters.
In the video, Haier demonstrated how HIVA helps with household chores by using a washing vacuum cleaner, working with a washing machine, and neatly folding laundry. However, at this stage, all these actions are performed under the remote control of engineers. This is necessary for collecting data and gradually training the model in real-life conditions. The goal is to make HIVA fully autonomous, capable of adapting to the needs of a specific home and its inhabitants.
The development is being carried out in partnership with Xingdong Jiyuan. Although HIVA's commercial launch has not yet been announced, the company is already actively promoting the project as a step toward eliminating household chores in the near future
