VeinViewer illuminates patients' veins during injections
An innovative VeinViewer device from Christie Medical is being used in the medical market. It allows illuminating veins on the patient's body, facilitating the injection process.
According to the developers, this tool significantly reduces the time required to start an intravenous injection and reduces the number of PICC lines by more than 30%. VeinViewer functions using near-infrared light that is projected onto the skin. The light is absorbed by the blood and reflected by surrounding tissues. The device processes the resulting data in real time. The width of the vessels used for peripheral intravenous injection (3-7 mm) is displayed with an accuracy of +/- 0.06 mm - which is 40% thinner than a human hair.
With AVIN (Active Vascular Image Navigation) technology, the physician can determine optimal access options for peripheral veins in real time. Df2 (Digital full field) technology allows deeper vessels to be seen with a high level of accuracy that surpasses other vein illumination devices on the market.
According to the manufacturers, VeinViewer technology can also be effective in plastic surgery to accurately perform subcutaneous injections
