In Rumme, Denmark, 3 leading energy companies have opened the world's first green ammonia plant. It is capable of producing 5,000 tons of “green” ammonia per year using only solar and wind energy. The plant's production capacity takes into account fluctuations in the energy generated by solar panels and wind turbines, which allows for optimizing the electrolysis and ammonia synthesis processes. The project, supported by € 11,000,000 from the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program, is being implemented by Topsoe in cooperation with Skovgaard Energy and Vestas. According to the project authors, green ammonia is not only used for fertilizer production (about 70% of the world's supply), but can also serve as a safe and efficient way to transport hydrogen. Its use as an energy-efficient fuel is also being considered. The launch of the world's first green ammonia plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 8,200 tons per year.
