The construction of the world's largest thermonuclear reactor has been delayed
The Iter project, which was supposed to revolutionize clean and cheap energy production, has hit some major setbacks and cost overruns. It's a project that involves 35 countries, including Europe, China, Russia, and the US, and it was supposed to be finished by 2020, but now it looks like it'll be delayed for a decade and won't be ready until 2039.
Located in Saint-Paul-les-Durance, France, the project started in 2010 and had a budget of 6 billion dollars. But now, the costs have ballooned to 20 billion dollars and are still rising. Recent estimates say the budget could go up another 5 billion dollars, making this one of the biggest and most expensive scientific projects ever.
