Tesla went for the remote control trick to create a pretty picture for investors. During the event, Optimus so deftly poured drinks, posed for photos and had long conversations with visitors that they made experts doubt their authenticity: for some reason, the robots used body language characteristic of humans, instantly distinguished the voice and figure of the interlocutor in a noisy crowd and gesticulated vividly. The doubts were confirmed: instead of a fully autonomous robot, the audience was entertained by live people. The robots did indeed walk by themselves, but remote control operators were responsible for everything else. Tesla presented the autonomous robots as “the future of artificial intelligence,” and Ilon Musk said during the broadcast that they could talk, mow the lawn, walk the dog and serve drinks. Promising claims backed by a colorful presentation should have fueled investor interest. Now the stunt that was uncovered will cast a shadow over the authenticity of the rest of the prototypes
