LEGO starts construction of an innovation campus in Denmark
LEGO has started construction of its new Innovation Campus in Billunn, Denmark. It is planned to be home to the company's global workplace and a model of creativity and sustainability.
The campus will comprise 6 overlapping modules up to 4 storeys high. It will house play areas, atriums and a unique PlayWay zone connecting all the ‘neighbourhoods’ of the campus. The project includes an abundance of green space and the building itself will be constructed from sustainable FSC-certified timber. It will also meet high standards of energy efficiency, biodiversity and water conservation.
The foundations of the 50,000 square metre campus have already been laid. It will house various LEGO departments, including marketing, product development, games and quality control. More than 600 designers will be able to work in the new complex.
According to the project's authors, LEGO employees were involved in the design process of the campus. They used LEGO cubes to contribute their ideas, which inspired creativity and co-conceptualisation.
The Innovation Campus is expected to be completed by 2027
