Knightscope autonomous robot begins patrolling dangerous Atlanta neighborhoods
In Atlanta, an autonomous robot called Knightscope will patrol the dangerous Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. It monitors events on the street and transmits information to the police without collecting personal data of citizens.
The robot only captures data available in public space. Knightscope Executive Vice President Stacey Stevens explained that this is similar to being caught in the lens of surveillance cameras in stores or banks. The device requires no human intervention. It captures what is happening around it on its own and reports suspicious activity to the police.
Knightscope has a height of 168 cm and weighs 190 kg. It will operate in test mode for several weeks.
