Japan's Tmsuk has developed the SPD-X multi-legged robot for pipeline inspection and maintenance. The robot's sixteen legs are arranged in two groups of eight each, which provides increased stability and walkability.
The robot is 50 centimeters long and weighs about nine kilograms. In its front part there is a panoramic camera, which can be used to inspect the condition of pipes from the inside. SPD-X moves at a speed of 0.3 kilometers per hour.
It is able to overcome height differences and move through sediments and deposits, which are usually covered with the inside of pipes. The robot is expected to help technicians inspect various types of pipelines for cracks, corrosion, blockages and other damage
