L'Aquaphile has introduced the new Pedayak Electric hybrid kayak. It can be operated using both pedals and an electric motor.
Users can move the device with the top pedals, which turn a propeller on the bottom of the boat. The Pedayak Electric is also equipped with 2 propellers: one is human-powered only and the other is battery operated. This gives users the ability to choose the mode they want.
The kayak is controlled by a horizontal rod that moves the tiller and turns the motor. The speed of the motor is controlled by a wireless remote control, and one charge of the lithium battery should be enough for 3 hours of electric-only operation or up to 7 hours using the pedals. The kayak has a cruising speed of 10 km/h.
The vehicle is 360 cm long and 73 cm wide and weighs 44 kg including the motor and battery. It is capable of supporting a load of up to 180 kg. Pedayak Electric is available for purchase on the company's website at a price of 3,900 euros. A version with a solar panel to boost the battery is also announced at a cost of €4,650.
