Honda is revisiting a concept that was popular in the 1980s, patenting a device that can act as a range extender for electric vehicles.
The automaker has developed a portable generator built into a folding motorcycle. Honda's patent drawings show a 1980s City with a Motocompo in the trunk, illustrating the concept of the new device.
Last November, the company launched the Motocompacto, an electric version of the Motocompo that can reach speeds of up to 25 km/h and has a range of about 20 km on a single charge. While the idea of a retractable motorcycle is exciting, many experts consider it unlikely to be realized. However, the concept of a multifunctional vehicle continues to attract attention and inspire new developments.
