Electric unmanned eVTOL has made its debut takeoff in Germany
The all-electric prototype of the CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL vertical takeoff and landing vehicle successfully completed its first autonomous takeoff in Donauwörth, Germany.
The CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL was introduced in March 2024 and is part of Airbus Helicopters' eVTOL personal flying vehicle initiative. It is made of lightweight and durable carbon composite material. The vehicle is equipped with 8 electric propellers and has a wingspan of 12 meters. The eVTOL also has fixed wings and a V-tail.
The vehicle can carry 1 pilot and 3 passengers with luggage, covering a distance of up to 80 km on a single charge at a speed of 120 km/h. Airbus plans to continue developing a series of eVTOL prototypes with improved range characteristics.
It is planned that the vehicle will be used for private and commercial purposes, including helicopter cabs, medical services and ecotourism
