Dubai prepares to build the world's longest green highway
Architecture studio URB has presented a plan to create a 64-kilometer tramway. The project, called Green Spine, aims to turn the federal highway E311 into the world's greenest highway.
Infrastructure in the plan includes parks and vertical gardens that will help regulate the air temperature, making it cooler and cleaner. About 1,000,000 trees are also expected to be planted along the Green Spine, as well as urban farms and various recreational areas.
The highway will run along a busy highway and will have a giant array of solar panels providing power for electric streetcars and neighboring homes. Bioswales are also expected to be used to collect and filter rainwater.
The highway is expected to be completed by 2040.
