In London, drones will transport blood. The machines will transport samples between two hospitals. It will take two minutes. Drones can be used to deliver goods, mail, or blood. That's what Alphabet's Wing drones will do in a pilot program. The medical drone delivery service for Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is partnering with Apian and Wing to launch a test program to deliver blood donations by drone between two hospitals in London. Moving samples between Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital's laboratory can take more than half an hour by road, but via drone it takes two minutes. This allows for faster analysis, helping to effectively determine, for example, whether patients are safe to undergo surgery. The trial will deliver blood samples for patients undergoing surgery who have a high risk of complications due to clotting disorders. The trial will last six months and will enable more logistically complex projects to be planned in the future.
