A six-legged robotic dog from China, known as Lenovo Morningstar IS, has successfully completed a series of tests in Antarctica. Now this innovative robot is ready for practical use in polar expeditions.

The robopod is designed with the specifics of the Antarctic climate in mind. It has demonstrated excellent ability to move on ice and snow, keeping its balance even when carrying loads. Special footwear created for the model provides reliable traction and withstands temperatures down to -40 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the device is equipped with a thermally insulated battery, which ensures its operation in the temperature range from -30 to -40 degrees for 4-6 hours. For long expeditions, engineers have provided a stackable battery solution that allows the robot to function for up to 46 hours without interruption.

During the tests, the robopet was able to carry loads weighing from 70 to 100 kilograms. It also performs route guidance functions using an ice crack detector, which improves the safety of glacier travel. The head of the research team expressed confidence that the successful testing of this robot opens up new opportunities for polar research
