After 46 years of hard work and dedication from 600,000 workers, China has completed the creation of a 3,000-kilometer "green belt" around the Taklamakan Desert, the largest desert in the country. The green belt is composed of a vast array of forests, grasslands, and protective solar panel "shields" planted around the desert's perimeter. These natural and technological features are designed to prevent sand and dust from reaching nearby regions, offering much-needed protection against dust storms. This monumental project is expected to have a significant impact on the climate, agriculture, and the health of local populations. By controlling the flow of sand and reducing the severity of dust storms, the green belt aims to improve air quality and provide a better quality of life for millions of people living near the desert
