Bioservo has introduced the Carbonhand soft robotic glove. It is designed to help people with impaired grip, osteoarthritis or myositis. The glove is designed to perform everyday tasks such as watering plants, filling a kettle and peeling potatoes. Carbonhand is equipped with pressure sensors that activate motors when needed to hold objects securely. They pull artificial tendons, providing a “natural and dynamic grip” with up to 20 Newtons of force per finger. The index finger and little finger remain exposed, while the thumb, middle finger and ring finger fit into the glove. The compact power pack can be worn around the waist or back, and settings are controlled via the mobile app. The Carbonhand was initially only offered in Sweden, Norway and Germany, but is now available in the US. Prices for the device have not been disclosed yet.
