Volvo has introduced a new-generation smart belt that can adapt to any passenger.
The device has more than ten sensors that record body weight, height, posture, seat position and backrest angle. This information is needed so that the system can accurately adjust the belt tension and provide optimal protection in the event of an accident.
The belt will communicate with the vehicle's electronic system, taking into account speed, trajectory, distance to other vehicles and their dimensions. This will allow to accurately calculate the moment and force of activation of the restraining mechanism, minimizing the risks of a collision. A key feature is the ability to remotely update the software via Wi-Fi, so the system will receive information that will increase the accuracy of operation and adaptability of the technology.
The new belt 2.0 will be installed in Volvo's EX60 electric crossover, which is scheduled for release in 2026
