The fluffy companion Mirumi reacts to sounds, turns its head when stroked, and can move on its own as if it were alive. The miniature robot with big eyes was created by the Japanese studio Yukai Engineering, where engineers and designers love to experiment with robotics and emotions.
Mirumi also has a whole range of micro-gestures: a modest glance upwards, a slight nod in response to a voice, hugging the handle of a bag. The algorithm randomises the movements to make the pocket assistant seem as lifelike as possible
